THE TRANSITION OF AKWA IBOM FROM OIL PRODUCING TO ENTERPRISE HUB #MadeInNigeria #AkeesToothpickAndPencil

The expectation of Akwa Ibom people on the Udom Emmanuel led administration was generally that of wealth creation and proliferation of (both small and large scale) industries. We all just wanted to transit from highest ‘oil producing state’ to some other lofty title in the Economics of Nigeria. It has taken persistence and concentration, but through AKEES (Akwa Ibom Enterprise and Employment Scheme), Governor Udom has been able to whip up activity, specifically in production and Agriculture.  Some other day, we will discuss the tonnes of Tomatoes being harvested monthly from various farms in the State, the tremendous success of the Akwa Prime Poultry scheme and the trainings upon trainings on different relevant skills going on daily by AKEES. For today, I just want to revel in the pride of Akwa Ibom producing Pencils and Toothpicks in a time when Nigeria has been reeling under the woeful impact of overdependence on imports. In 2007, President Obasanjo fumed over N

I'M SORRY, I NOW BELIEVE IN NOLLYWOOD & NOLLYMUSIC

By Uduak Umo   I stumbled recently on a Justin Bieber music, and my attention was arrested. Reason: I heard on it a beat we used to play and dance to on Calabar streets in the mid 90s. That beat was in every Orthodox Church praise session, by way of handclaps; some kind of 4/4 played in soukous music. I've also heard other West African native music beats on a number of pure whitey disco music. My confession: I've been a Nollywood/Nollymusic naysayer for long. But now, I'm a believer in those industries. This country can funnel back capital that takes flight through corrupt oil sector management, through Entertainment. We can recruit a patriotic citizenry, we can revive dying dialects, we can revolutionize West Africa's economy, we can make blackness popular, we can even colonize foreign countries; there's so much we can do using our Arts. We need information, we need strategy, and we need the will to initiate and to sustain the

(MUST READ) NIGERIANS EITHER LEARN TO READ, OR REMAIN SLAVES? 8 tips for self-help

We don’t read, do we? Post a little thing on social, once it shows ‘continue reading…’ it is already boring to people, especially members of the 3 rd world. Unless it is about sensational topics like celebrity gossip, sex and the likes, it hardly gets impressive reads.  Dear Nigerian, or should I say African, as long as we don’t take interest in healthy enlightenment, we will remain a 3 rd world race. And since there’s too much to read in too little time, we have to learn to speed-read. Remember this quote attributed to a certain Dee Lee; “if you don’t want a nigger to see this, hide it in a book”.  FIND THE FULL TEXT OF THE LETTER HERE There is also this letter of a certain slave owner in 1712, who wrote about how to keep the black man in slavery. His name was said to be William Lynch, and here is the full text of the letter. I retitled it as How to know if blacks are still slaves, because if you read through it, you can tell if you’re still being enslaved, i

President Buhari Doesn't Favour Nigeria-Isreal Relations. Does He?

Between Israel and Saudi Arabia, which country should Nigeria and West African neighbors be closer to given a common security nagging concern we all have? What has Saudi offered us other than pilgrimage? The same cannot be said of Israel, can it? What then is this unspoken diplomatic dispreference  of The Muhammadu Buhari administration for Israel, a country that World powers run to for scientific, technological and security solutions? It does not matter your politico-religious affiliation. Go for it as long as it pays. Here's what Victor Oladokun, a leading Nigerian International media consultant, has to say. Thanks to diplomatic road blocks and the Nigerian Government's political foot dragging, the proposed meeting later this year between Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the 15-member nation Economic Communities of West Africa, (ECOWAS) during the annual summit in Nigeria, is in jeopardy. For the meeting to hold, Nigeria must sign-off on it. So f
