SAM IKON’S ADVICE TO AKWA IBOM PEOPLE ON ACQUIRING CERTIFICATIONS

- How the Yorubas Stay Far Ahead of Us - What you gain with Certifications Added to your degree "I told my brother, keep your PhD aside; go for certifications. That is what develops your capacity; that is what qualifies you to speak at conferences around the world. I have a friend who acquired several certifications here in Nigeria. He got a job from here and today he's become a citizen of UK and Canada, getting jobs using just his certifications. Whatever you do, get certifications. This is one of the ways the Westerners overtake us. They accumulate certifications long after their degrees, and they travel everywhere because of their capacity."  – Rt. Hon Sam Ikon (paraphrased), member representing Etinan Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Abuja, April 11, 2017, at his home while interacting with few supporters and friends.  Apparently, the parliamentarian does believe in strategic professional 'educationing'. Himself, he h

UPDATE ON PLANS TO TACKLE THE ‘UNCERTIFIED’ IN PROFESSIONAL BODIES

There is a plan by professional bodies to strengthen their practices in Nigeria as is done around the world. the Nigeria Society of Engineers NSE strongly demand that nobody answers 'Engineer' without their licence.  Most government officials are easy targets for defaulting, and they may soon be prosecuted and their governments humiliated for hiring what the professionals call 'quacks'.  The NIA has released a circular for architects. After their coming AGM at Kwara, NIPR will most likely begin their own campaign against quackery.  Media aides, appointees of various arms of government and employees of organisations acting in the PR or Communications departments, who are not certified by the constitutional authorizing bodies, may be embarrassed soon, and even remedial measures by their political employers will not totally repair damage done.  Recommendation:  If you’re not YET chartered, and you have practiced PR for up to 5 years, please desist fro

HOW WE JUST GOOF AT SMART PURCHASES. FOCUS: THE AFFORDABLE-LAND-IN-UYO OFFER by Uduak Umo

A friend, Godwin Uduak Inua said to me: "When morning break, you go teh dem Good Morning". I found this both hilarious and inspiring. That pidgin proverb addresses 3 classes of people we (@ Jabborro PR ) encounter in our marketing programme, the Affordable Land Offer. The first are Akwa Ibom people in the diaspora, who for 3 months had the opportunity to buy a plot of 500 square meters at $1400, thanks to the fall of the Naira. They foot-dragged. Now they have to buy same size at $1944.44, as the Naira is becoming stronger. That's $544 more. More bad news: the Naira is rising towards N250 to the Dollar, says analysts and per feelers from the office of the VP. If they bought now, they could save themselves $856 per plot. Second class are Akwa Ibom people who lament the takeover of lands in Uyo by what they call 'strangers'. They have enough to commit in investment, but they'd rather 'save for rainy days'

How Governor Udom Emmanuel Prioritizes Education in Akwa Ibom - By Uduak Umo

Comm of Info & Strategy, Aides of Governor Udom with Students of State College Education in Akwa Ibom is still free and compulsory at basic level. Despite the severe loss in revenue, resulting in drastic cuts in Government spending; the Government of Mr Udom Emmanuel spends over 600 million naira paying for WAEC fees yearly. During the ongoing Open Governance Tour, on Day4, earlier Tuesday, journalists and other media practitioners, led by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh, were able to witness first hand the progress being recorded in the Education sector in the state. The entourage, which included other aides of the Governor, went to three secondary schools in the three senatorial districts of the state: Cornelia Connelly College (CCC) Uyo; Government Secondary School, Afaha Uqua, Eket and State College, Ikot Ekpene. Nigeria is officially and practically in a season of vastly inclusive economic failure. Elsewhere in the country, parents find it ha
